Abraham's Second Week - May 14-21, 2009

Our friend Mike came to visit, meet Abraham and help with things around the house. It was wonderful to spend time with him and introduce him to the mid-south.

Unfortunately, Abraham got some raw spots on his bottom, so we had to figure out a way to let his rear dry out. One day Abraham, I and my friend, Cybil, hung out on the floor for a while. Abraham was flopped over his Boppy, but he seemed happy there. Cybil took these pictures.

Jack's co-worker, John, brought us dinner of homemade soup and bread and came to meet our little man.

Abraham was cracking me up doing funny hands.

First Bath in a tub, but we still had very little water in the tub b/c his belly button stump was still attached. He wasn't thrilled, but didn't hate it either. He just chilled most of the time. This picture was near the end when he was "done".

Grandpa John blowdrying him. He LOVES this.Hanging out w/Dad.

Week 2 Dr. visit. This is Cindy, their breastfeeding specialist-who I LOVE! She is fun and sweet and has a way with Abraham. I have learned a lot from her already and am so thankful that she is on staff @ Pediatric's East.

We are measuring his head.

In action, perfecting our breast feeding.

First Pictures of Abraham - May 6, 2009

Here is our baby boy.
Abraham James Watkinson

Getting checked. In this picture you can see the side of his head that he was presenting in the birth canal. It is still red and swollen on this left side where it was coming out when I pushed.

He weighed 7 pounds and 14 oz.

He has long fingers, feet and toes.
Our first family photo!
Abraham and I. Praise God for him!

Birth Process (WARNING! SKIN AND BLOOD IN SOME OF THESE!) -May 6, 2009

For the first few hours of labor I was doing well and happier up and moving around, but it was awkward with all of the IVs and fluid leaking out. (4AM till about 1PM)

Once my labor intensified Bacon's heartbeat was dropping, so they had me on oxygen. (1-2PM)

Between pushes. (2-3PM)

He was presenting the side of his head (instead of the top)/ Dr. Bishop, tried to turn him and help him through my pelvis as I pushed, but every time I stopped pushing he would just go back in. We tried for about 40 minutes and nothing was changing, but Bacon's heartbeat dropped numerous times. They brought in forecepts, but couldn't get a safe grip on his head. She suggested a C-section before he was too far in the birth canal or before we needed an emergency C-section if his heart rate dropped and did not recover.
Being brave as they got us ready for the C-section. (about 3PM)

WARNING!!!-Blood in pictures below

Here they are pulling Abraham out of my belly!!

Abraham James Watkinson is born! 3:20 PM
